Spay and Neuter
Arlington Veterinarian Provides Spay and Neuter Services to Area Pets
When pet owners spay and neuter their animals, they not only help prevent an unwanted pregnancy, but they also do their part to control animal overpopulation, which leads to the needless euthanizing of countless dogs and cats every day. Spaying or neutering is the most effective form of animal birth control available, and our animal hospital provides both services to pets in the greater Arlington area.

Though we treat pets of all ages at our Arlington veterinary clinic, our veterinarian knows that it is beneficial to sterilize your dog or cat by the time he or she is approximately six months old, as doing so at a younger age will contribute to an easier recovery and for males, a better appearance following the operation. When we neuter male dogs and cats, we perform a castration of the testes, which are the reproductive organs in male animals. When we spay a female cat or dog, we perform an ovario-hysterectomy to completely remove the all components of the reproductive organs - including the ovaries and uterus.
The goal of our Arlington veterinarian is to always ensure that your dog or cat remains comfortable throughout the spay and neuter procedure. We provide pain management throughout the operation, as well as in the recovery time following a surgery. You can rest assured that our veterinarian is very experienced in sterilization procedures for pets of all breeds and ages, and we will treat your dog or cat with the loving care and attention that we would treat our own pets with.
Pet Care and What to Expect Following Spay and Neuter Procedures
Pet care after your dog or cats operation is just as important as the operation itself. Despite the common nature of sterilization procedures in our veterinary clinic, we may still choose to hold your pet for several hours or overnight following his or her neutering or spaying. This is for observation to ensure your animal is responding to the surgery without complications and capable of making a full recovery at home.
We will give you instructions concerning specific pet care needs your dog or cat may have, such as pain management and when it is safe to let your pet play freely again. Fortunately, with proper pet care, dogs and cats bounce back quickly from spaying and neutering, and they are typically back to their usual playful selves within a few days of the procedure.
After our Arlington animal hospital spays or neuters your pet, you can expect to experience some beneficial changes and health benefits. If you have a female, your pet will no longer experience heat cycles, which often causes the shedding of blood in dogs and loud wailing in cats. Your male cat or dog, on the other hand, will no longer experience the need to roam, and will probably become less territorial and aggressive.
